SAE40 I believe, for stiffer damping

Standard oil is SAE 20 - better damping as others have pointed out with SAE 30, even better with 40! But note - that's NOT 10W40 - which is only SAE10 at normal temp. So - as above - either garden centre or motrocycle place - just ask for engine oil - not fancy 'suspension' oil. Tesco do a small bottle of SAE 30 at fair price - look in gardening section. drain off the old (stinking!) oil - add some new and pump it through - when you see new oil running out - refit the valve assembly and fill up with new oil. You need to bounce the car up and down to expel air - and expect to keep topping it up weekly for about a month. Don't fill right to the top - leave a small air space.
