gearbox change

i am thinking of changing the 803 gearbox to a 948 gearbx would i have to change the handbrake from the gold one i know ill have to change the gearbox cover as i want the later gearstick in but anything else

Ahh -most would swap the box - but keep the old 'pudding stirrer' gearstick for originality on an older car like that. The tail units on the boxes can be swapped. I do suspect you may have to change the handbrake if you go for a 'remote control' gearlever.

When I swapped the gearbox in my 54 minor I did as BMC says - just swapped the tail units over. It was an easy swap and kept it original

Josh, is the gearbox that bad? Never had mine going yet - I've seen someone else compare them to a "bag of bones"

The problem with the 803 box is the gear ratios, 1st to 3rd gears are low with a large step up to 4th. This is what gives the 803 engine a bit of acceleration at lower speeds. The 948 box has much better spaced gears. There is gearbox table for comparison on the Series MM website,
