Carpet fitting

Post by pjh56 »

I am just about to replace the carpets in my 1970 saloon. Can anybody tell me how they fit the carpet around the ashtray on the tunnel in the back of the car?

Does the carpet come with a pre cut hole? The Carpet set I am looking at has a leather binding on every edge, if I have to cut a hole myself this will look odd.

The company I am thinking of using is Techautos, has anybody else used them?

Regards
Peter

But the brackets holding the ashtray down are at 90 degrees to the vertical side, these would be visible and look reallly tatty. It wouldn't be so bad if the retaining screws were in the base of the ashtray as then they would not be seen.

Thats what I did when I put new carpets in mine. I left the ashtray out.

Anyone using the back seat always kicks the top off the ashtray anyway, plus the fact that no one ever smokes in the car made it an easy decision to leave it out, they always look untidy. At least the front ashtrays can be used for storing spare fuses and a couple of quid in change.

I have taken Mike Perry and StaffsMoggie's advice and will leave the ashtray out when I fit the new carpets in the car, I originally wanted to keep it as it has always been, but I think the central tunnel will look tidier without it.

Isn't it one of the "De Luxe" features?
