Hi, Can anyone please help

I have had my car now for 14 years excatly tomorrow, and love it to bits, however now that it has gone cold and I have heater problems at present (please see 'wanted' section) the window inside seem to steam up immediately when setting off. Very often they are covered in condensation before I get in and during really cold spells, the back window is iced up and has to be scrapped off. Unfortunately I do not have a garage for her. At present my morris is in daily use and recently I find myself getting up half an hour earlier just to wipe all the windows inside and out to make sure I can see out and be safe. Am I the only person with this problem?????

I have the same problem. My de-mister is a passenger with a chammy

Condensation means there must be water ingress in the car, either you have leaky seals or..... a hole!

Its just the way they are - My door seals are past their best and I get steamed up - The heater does shift it though once moving. Hope you get yours sorted soon.

First check - are the carpets wet ? If so - remove them! Throw down some rubber mats for winter instead of sodden carpets! Also look under the rear seat squab, and in the boot - is it wet? You must remove all moisture! You can't beat ventilation - so drive with windows slightly down and/or open the quarter light on the driver side just slightly. You obviously need the heater working - first thing get an 88 or 92 degree thermostat and fit that - check the hoses to/from the heater are clear - blow them through with a hose pipe - and make sure the heater valve is WIDE open. To boost the fan - you can swop it for a heater unit from a Mini - much larger fan, and you can fit the Minor front plate so it looks exactly the same. The air flow is much better with the larger fan. Also make sure the fresh air trunk is connected to the heater - and it is possible to reposition the intake end so it takes warmed air from behind the radiator - rather than cold air from in front. But - don't do this if your engine is pushing out fumes - you don't want to be breathing in that stuff!

To help get the moisture out, visit your local hardware store and get a cheap de-humidifying kit. NOT electrical, it's just a plastic tub with some crystals inside that absorb moisture. Works a treat, but remember to empty it now and then.

Also driving with the windows open helps to remove the moist air

Use washing up liquid polished off inside the windows to prevent misting.

If your extension cable is long enough put a fan heater in the car whilst having breakfast, de-frosts/demists and you get into a nice warm car

No - I haven't done it - it's just a warning to do so! A warning card on the steering wheel helps.

my heater isnt much good eatheir
i tried some rainex mist stuff dont use it as its rubbish. puts an oily film on the screen

i am glad that someone else has found that with rainex i thought it was just me

waste of £6.00
anyone got any suggestions???? as i have the same problem as froste. my heater does work but its pointless as it take hours before it clears the screen

Upgrade to the Mini heater - fit a winter thermostat (88 or 92 degrees) - and for faster warm up - eliminate the bypass hose!

Don't leave it until your lips have gone blue though... especially if you are the one driving.

it might be a bit tricky this stop breathing lark especially when driving!!
