Non - Golden Gearbox

Post by PSL184 »

It may just me being cynical and I have no knowledge of this gearbox or seller, but it appears that if you clean up an old gearbox and put it into a nice BMC crate, then you will be doing yourself a big favour !!!!  :o :D

Hmmm, rusty nuts & bolts indicate that its not nice, shiney and new

Also, shouldn't the box say "silver seal"

The rusty nuts and bolts might be because its a 30 year old recon box, but I can understand the reluctance

Yes, but surely they would have been painted? therefore they would not have gone rusty?

My betting is that the Gold seal gearbox was taken out of the crate - fitted to a Minor (many years ago no doubt) - the old gearbox was put in the crate ready to be sent back - and never went! So - I suspect someone has paid a very high price (£170) for a worn-out gearbox!

This one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... ink:top:en
seems rather more realistically priced.

That would explain the new, recon or used description. Good thinking Roy!
Mind you someone went over the top with the cleaning, if it was going back, either that or they were very thoughtful!
