Isn't there a diagram in the manual?
Basically straight ahead for the mains and lower by an equal amount for dipped beams.

Yes, if you set the main beam parallel to the ground at a distance of 25 feet from a verticle surface and on level ground the dipped beam will be correct also.

It is easier to remove the chrome light surrounds and nip in to your local MOT station and ask them to check them on their beam tester. I did this the other day with the Focus as one light was out of adjustment and they set the lights up in a couple of minutes free of charge. I now know where the Focus light adjusting screws are.

two crosses on the wall work well the main beam should be in the middle and diped to the left bottom corner. Middle of the crosses should be in the middle of teh headlight, then back the car away then check the lights.... if that makes sence. I have a diagram somewhere ill post if it helps.

I just shone main beam at the garage then pushed the car backwards and adjusted till the main beam was still shining at the same point. Been through 3 MOT's since ok (with headlight tester)

Not much left to do now , caroline bought a metre of red vinyl so I can re-cover the scuttle panels , heater not going but not urgent ,I will put the carpets in soon. When the lights and tracking are set she should be ready , I will grease back of new hub caps and fit , maybe you or David could fit the windscreen chrome for me , I will try to fit the washer bottle and pipe work, jets are on. She is running better , carb dashpot was low of oil , rocker cover was loose , also put Redex through the carb , you probably saw the smoke signals , cant wait till Harewood . :D

does anyone know if the headlights are sided, the problem is hard to describe but dip and full beam seem to be working diagonally rather than in tandem. :(

Lights are either RHD or LHD, I guess it's possible that you've got one of each but LHD lights would be pretty rare in the UK. You should be able to see the same lens pattern on the glass.

Dipped beam is supposed to be directed more towards the kerb, is that what you're seeing?

Most likely one of them is cross connected! Just swap the wires. Obviously - main beam is the high setting - and should be on when the blue warning light in the speedo is on!

Ah, that makes sense, one on full beam with the other dipped - if that's what kjm meant.

whats happening is, whether on main beam , which on this car is a red light, 63 Minor , or on dip , IS one lamp high while the other is low then when you change to dip the opposite high and low , if that poor grammar makes sense , :o

Yes, sounds like the wires are mixed up as said above, ie, you have one wired for main beam and one wired for dip beam. Was it you who had to run a wire from one side of the car to the other to get the lights to work? Can't remember now....
