Im after buying a welder as my pick up needs new floors etc so does anyone know what a SIP 196 is like or whether it is up to the job?

Sip are notorious for wire speed problems. I'm not familiar with that paticular model so can't comment further.

Have to be honest I've got a MIgmate 130Turbo and just spent several months welding Matilda's bum. Never ever had any wire feed problems with either 6 or 8 mil wire. Not the most sophisticated welder in the world but it does me fine
Keep the tensioner adjusted and dont store the wire in the machine for months on end.

I think a lot of my wire feed problems were due to it being stored with the drive roller tensioned, which permanently deformed the plastic mounted pivot. Sorted with a bit of proper engineeringand some steel strip!
