Thanks for that. I have been asked by our Sth. Wales Branch if I could organise a club run along the Wye Valley on Drive It Day next year.
I will put this date in my little black book. and post out details later.

Given that my local classic car club seems to be floundering (This years event was cancelled), I'd like to take part.
It might be at the wheel of an MG if that's not an issue???
Would you be picking the Wye valley up in Chepstow or higher up around Hay or Builth?

Nice bit of scenery from the race course through to Monmouth.

Pity it wasn't now, as the Autumn colours are incredible. Oddly enough, they were at their best in October 1983. It was cold but sunny and the leaves had changed to the full spectrum of Autumnal colours.
I was sat, freezing by ***** off, in the back of an Army Land Rover, en route to Salisbury Plain. At the time I had a Mini 1000 but pondered that the same trip, in an open sports car, would be very agreeable. Funnily enough, although I have driven down there in the Midget a couple of times since, the “Fall” seems to come later these days (Though this year it has been earlier but I’ve been too busy) and I’ve never caught it the way it was that day in the Land Rover.

That must be a bit dodgey on race days

The B4235 (Usk road) comes out quite near there - nice run that road.

Well, about a five minute walk away! It is dodgy traffic on race days though, especially that darn National, and when they hold the Wyedean Stages!

Me to - presumably there will be various "Pick up points" en route to the Wye Valley?

Well what I planned last April was to start from the Barn at Llantristant and headed to Newport. From the A48 to Caerwent onward to Chepstow Castle Past the Racecourse to Tintern Abbey. On to Monmouth and finnished at Raglan Castle. Although we only had three Morris's we kept to a time table and it is thought that if we do the same next year people can meet up anywhere along the route.
The date will be April 25th 2010.
The timetable will follow in the New Year.

I'll probably be able to pick up at Caerwent and follow just past Monmouth :3
