Reverse instead of 5th gear

Post by FrankM83 »

Hi all found a gear knob amongst my parts today which is off a 4 speed car and has the reverse where most modern cars have the 5th gear today, it also says LIFT for reverse, any ideas of what this might be off? it has a teardrop shape similiar to the Minor's

I think it's an HC he's really not that muchin classics I've been dying to take it off his hands to treat it a bit better, it's still in a very good condition he recently bought it, it was a one owner, I'll take some pics for you :)

Well my Mother's Austin 1300 (1974) had a lift for reverse and it only had 4 gears and was teardrop shaped

It sounds like a Triumph one. My Spitfire has the standard layout for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th with reverse sitting next to 3rd, and I have to lift the stick to get it past the gate to engage the gear. My box is a single rail unit as fitted to 1500 and larger engines, not standard for my MKIV but works well, I’ll replace it soon when I find an overdrive unit…..
