how about this then about 15 years ago I repaired and replaced the sill area and boxing panels with a new boxing and outer undersill painted with hamerite and the lashings of old engine oil mixed with black waxoil,just took the sill covers off to have a look(Bored) and found this [/img]<br><br> and this<br><br> After cleaning off with petrol and terps,just shows how old methods on an old 1955 splitty can go together,heres some other the whole underside of the car was at one stage covered in old engine oil the guy I inherited it from30 years ago used to get it on a ramp and spray the underside with old oil,must have bee a right mess,but it has certainly saved it all shots are original panels never been welded/<br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br><br>

Thats lasted well. It certainy proves how well you protected it. Out of interest, has it been stored indoors?

Is that paint on the car, or wet oil :) ?

used as daily driver on and off for most of the time then my son ran it for a long while then outside under cover for 4 years waiting for full mechanical rebuild , now completed,the only original mechanical bits are the axel and torsion bars everything else ,suspension, brakes, engine and transmission has been replaced or rebuilt , at a cost of about £1000 got all the bills daren't add then up . now inside since my scimitar gtc is the main car after a long spasmodic rebuild going to do a few little jobs on morris,one being to respray the boot lid,the paint is a bit thin with polishing over the years then it,s going on sale either here or flea bay.When I get time will put some shots of the underside on,its as good as the tops,when I got it I was amazed at how good the chassis and suspension mounts were ,cleaned the old gunge off and found original brown paint underneath most of the frame,put gallons of black waxoil on which has been redone three times if I remember.

Some may know that I have had to change my gerabox,I was in trepidation when it came to taking off the cover because I was convinced I would find rot inside the front chassis legs,Its not been off since I had the car so, thirty years,\well not only was the old boy spraying oil on the underside he was obviously also pouring the stuff inside the legs as well because the legs were still covered in the black claggy stuff it's not the best photo too dark in garage but the lighter bits are clean bright metal where I scraped it off to have a look under the gunge no trace of any rust happy days eh [frame][/frame]Might keep it now for another 30 years probably outlast me

my dad used old engine oil on all his motors, even his motor bikes, but that was on the sidecar and frame. most of the ones he sold, when he wanted a change are still doing the rounds. i use it on my 1965 landrover, easy to do and best of all cheap
