Ring on gear stick

I have a circular piece of metal with a screw in the side attached to my gear stick about half way up from the gaitor, can anybody tell me what this is for?
I have a 1970 saloon and have looked at pictures of cars from the same time but can't see it on any of them.

It's probably a retaining ring for a crooklock that locked the gearstick and handbrake together.

Thanks for that Pete as I have occasionally come across those and wondered what they were from.

Does it come off easily enough?

Just undo the screw.

It should do is it the grub screw type or slotted head type, if its the grub screw type you will need an allen key to undo it.

Will have a go tomorrow and get it off, got some allen keys in the garage if it's grub screw.

Don't worry we specialise in putting our foot in it on this board that's part of what makes it fun

A trait I recognise in myself, from time to time.

I had the same thing on mine - luckily it still had the crook lock attached so I knew what it was for!

Stating the obvious:- you will have to take the gear knob off
I still have the lock, not sure about the ring.
