Hi Everyone,
Found this Speedo in the garage the other day, wondered if any of you knew what it is from?
Its brand new and in its original BMC Smith box with 00001 miles.
Thought it maybe off a Minor but after looking at a few it doesnt look like it. SO similar though.
Definitely from a British car, and something that only goes up to 90 mph...
The part number is SN 8605/14
Has anyone seen one before?
As far as I can make out it should have a clock in the bottom that is missing as on the Smiths box it says " Speedometer less Clock" next to the part number.

Did the larger Morris Oxford with the sidevalve engine not have the speedo with clock ?

Not a Series MO Oxford speedo. That had a small speedo with a trip meter, code X69982.
My guess is a Morris Oxford Series II or Morris Isis '54 on.
What is the TPM no?

I'm guessing Oxford Series 11 or 111.

Definately Series 2 Morris Oxford (or Isis). The round hole is for the clock. Always wondered if one would fit a Minor as an upgrade...

Depends on the TPM and of course you would need a separate fuel gauge so you are not really gaining anything, separate clock or fuel gauge

I find the little clock on my wrist - tells me the time very adequately!

what about people who dont ware watches? ie me and looking at the time on the mobile while driving is of course illegal so the clock in the car is a must for a lot of people plus it makes it look nicer

It was just an idle thought when I ran a Series 2 Oxford for about 18months a few years back, the fact the speedo looked like it would fit a Minor. Real improvement would be the trip but as you say, you'd ned to fit a fuel gauge somewhere, and it was always going to be one of those mods that never got done. An 80mph speedo, however would have been adequate for my use!

Never worn a watch since I got involved in sheet metalworking and bodywork. Always something to get caught or damaged when working. (Metal watch straps, when tig welding on a steel bench are hugely entertaining - at least for the spectators!).

I have a matching dial? that would look rather nice with it just require some dash extension though and it has a place for the fuel gauge, I want that speedo
