How Do I Know

I every one I am new to this site. So please if this has been asked before don't shout at me. But as a prospective owner of a soft top Minor HOW do I tell if it's an orignal,or not? Thanks in advance.
P.S If anyons has a soft top for sale not too far from Essex please tell me!!

Biggest/quickest giveaway is the slightly curved triangular sections just under the dash on each side.

Check the chassis plate but bear in mind that it could have been changed so look for signs, too new, screwdriver scratches etc.
1952-8. Example FCA 11/234356 The C denotes convertible. A 2 door would have a B as the 2nd character.
1958-71. Example MAT5 1175642. The T denotes tourer or convertible. A 2 door would have 2S as the 3rd character.
There is nothing wrong with a conversion as long as it is done correctly with the correct strengthening pieces and it is not passed off as a genuine convertible.
If in doubt you can always check with British Motor Industry Heritage Trust who hold the construction records. Search BMIHT for website.
I would advise taking someone with you to check any car over. Body strength is particularly important
