Changing the engine

This may be a stupid question but I might have the chance of getting a 1098 engine and my minor has a 948 in at the minute,Is it a straight swap to fit the 1098 or will there need to be modifications made.
Cheers Mark

If you can get the 1098 gearbox as well then it will be almost a straight swap. If you can only change the engine then there may be a few clutch issues which no doubt someone will identify.
You may wish to change the diff from your 4.55:1 to 4.22:1 from a 1098 which will give a more relaxed cruising, in which case you should also swap the speedometer head.
You should also fit the 8in front brakes from the 1098

Keep the 948 - it is a better engine!
But, fit the 1098 gearbox, propshaft and back axle.

Use the new 1098 engine - but - fit the backplate and flywheel from the 948 engine to it. It's then a dead straight swop.

Indeed!! Page AA 25 of the Manual. I notice they refer to it as the 'rear engine mounting plate'.

Better using the REAL Workshop Manual. Haynes is useful - but you can't beat the real thing!
