Can anyone tell me the chasis number of the first of the MM 1000- 948 in Autumn '56?
The coding seems to be retaining the previous series 2 system I am keen to know how early a car with No. FAB11457071 might be. Any help appreciated

Suggest you go to the links section on the left of this page. The Potteries branch site has a lot of very useful info. Try there.

The stats on the Potteries site suggest that some 8000 series 3's were produced between introduction and mid-Nov '56- seems a lot of cars in a very short time. (apologies for name miss-spelling Lou!)

The mid 50's were the hay-days for the Minor so figures like those should be expected. I'm not surprised by them, the 'new car that everyone's been waiting for' would sell, I've got a feeling the advertising of the time played on the nice new bits, 'and now Big Car performance', so may have invoked a few sales.
