metal thickness

just about to order some metal to fix a rust hole in the chassis, but wondering what thickness i should get?

One millimetre is fairly easy to bend, but is too thin for chassis work. One and a half millimetres is good for chassis work, but hard to bend even after a bowlful of Weetabix!
That's what I use, for the chassis, but perhaps others have a different opinion. Two millimetres? I think that's for ships?
Also, there are various grades of steel. You need one with a high carbon content......there's a classification system, but I don't know the actual numbers. Someone else here will, for sure. I just buy what the local guy has - it's that, or a day out to far-flung places.

I used 16 gauge (1.5mm) on the chassis. Many prefabricated panels from main suppliers are thinner but they gain strength from being folded.
