Marina Disc Conversion hub bearings driving me nuts !!

Still trying to fit a second hand Marina Disc conversion to my beloved 4 door. Have fitted new hub bearings, seals, calipers etc but I just can't get the right tension on the hub bearings; they're is just too much play when I rock the hub which is even worse of course when I fit the wheel.

I have tried taking the washer out under the hub nut but still no luck. The outer bearing race seems to fit nicely in the hub so does this mean that my kingpins are shot or is there something else I can try to take up the slack.

Can I still get new Marina-Minor compatible kingpins by the way? All help gratefully received.

Thanks,

Which bearings are you using.
Early swivel pins did have smaller diameter stub axles, not sure about the accurate dates that this applies too.
Did you try the bearings on the stub axle first to check the fit, they should just slide on, but some new stub axles seem to have a slight bulge in the steel which needs to be dressed back in order to fit the larger inner bearing.

you need two washers under the castle nut,a new one then the original.

If you're using standard kingpins then you should have an adapter with the inner bearing. Sold as a kit by most Minor suppliers, but if you got the whole lot second hand then it could have been left behind on the old kingpins. In this photo: http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/pop ... p?pID=1301 you can see the adapter already fitted to the bearing, top left, but often they arrive as separate components.

Guys,

Thanks very much for the responses and the helpful photo link. I don't have an adapter on either side so I'll try to get some. I assume from the link that they are sold by ESM so will give them a call.

Cheers.

I fitted the adapters to the stub axle and then fitted the bearings & hub to that. The adapters don't seem inclined to come off again.

Once you've got the adapters and everything fitted you may need to take the torquing instructions for the Marina with a pinch of salt. I have to over-torque one side to get the bearing to seat fully on the adapter, if I use the "limp finger" torque specified in the Marina manual it's horribly slack. I'm guessing one of my adapters wasn't machined to a good enough tolerance.
