Just wondered if someone could help, I fitted a new Speedo amonst other jobs over the last month, I took my Million out for the first time today for some new tyres, the speedo needle does not move and I have a clicking noise coming from the gearbox area, is it the cable or have I disturbed something else? any ideas to remedy would be much appreciated, thanks Stephen.

Sounds like it could have a broken cable?
Disconnect at the speedo head and push the car forwards or backwards - the cable should rotate.

Quite possible that when you fitted the new speedo, the inner part of the cable was pulled out from the drive socket at the gearbox end. Unscrew the gearbox end of the cable, re-seat the inner, and then reconnect the screw fitting. Other than that, broken cable as above.

Cracked it, unusual fault this one, I took cable out of gearbox and found inner cable would not move, so took Speedo back out, the unit I had put in was a new / old stock so basically nearly 50 years old, found that the centre socket had seized up, put some WD40 and hey presto 1/2 hour later the speedo work a good-un, lucky in many ways that the cable did not break, any thanks to all that replied much appreciated - Stephen.

Lucky indeed! You can test a speedo with an electric drill - as long as it can run in reverse direction.

What sort of rpm does the cable rotate at?

I had the same thing happen, bought a NOS speedo with 1mile on the clock fitted it and the cable broke. Then I realised it was stuck. The old grease hardens up and wont let it turn. I cleaned mine with some petrol.
