V0Y 948 G tax expired 1.11.90 but it may be either in a private collection or gone to the mighty graveyard.

Lovejoy started with a yellow Volvo estate. The Moggy came later (a gift from Lady Jane, I think). In a later series, it emerged as a modified car ( his sidekick Eric was supposed to have done it up?). I'm sure there was something in Minor Matters about the car & how the programme makers had to spray rust & oxide on a perfectly good car to get the 'lived in' look.
Were the two actually different cars or did they actually upgrade it? I think it was two cars, but they changed the latter's number plate when filming.

The filming at the "Manor House" and barn was done at a farmhouse opposite where I used to live - every day I drove down the road shown in the pictures above. I spent an hour on set, and, apart from meeting the cast (who I didn't recognise as I didn't watch the program at that time!), I inspected and drove Miriam. The car was pretty well perfect, a lovely, and typical, example: Shiny on the outside, good mechanics, but the engine bay was probably the original factory paint, certainly not concours. The upgrades consisted solely of wider wheels and a large bore tail pipe - the engine and rest of the exhaust were absolutely standard 1098cc. Remeber that most things you see on TV are an illusion.
There appeared to be a full time mechanic looking after the car who spotted a tiny drip of condensation on the dipstick and diagnosed head gasket failure and got immediate authorisation to employ a local garage to change it "as a matter of urgency". So that's where your license fee goes! I was able to sell them a few spares, but whether they were needed or not is a matter of debate. As I say, the car was a good vehicle, but that was 20+ years ago. I hope that it's still giving enjoyment to the current owner.

2 different cars - I was told that the 2nd was a post production convertible, but having not looked closely I wouldn't know myself.

I remember seeing the first car at the MMOC National Rally at Knebworth back in '95. That was after it had been given away in a competition and the second car was still being used for the series at the time. I don't remember seeng it at any subsequent rallies.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but I came across this and thought I would let you know that Lovejoys 'Miriam' is alive and well. She has just been Moted and Taxed again and will be out and about in the Essex countryside this summer. She has been off the road for a year or two but has been in regular use since I bought her from the BBC at the end of filming.
