With special thanks to Josh & Neil for their kindness in supply free parts and a mention to the others who have supplied bits and pieces at very reasonable prices I am now in the position to take Betty for the first MOT in 4 years, which is tomorrow....
I hate this time esp on a "new" car that I don't know much about....

If they book you in for a fixed time (so you can drive it there without Road Tax) - they MUST do it at that time ! Is it perhaps having some remedial work done - then going for a 're-test' ?

They collected her on a trailer late this morning and got as far as the pre check over on the ramps - They gave her a clean bill of health but then didn't get the time to go through the whole MOT process. It was pretty manic down there when I called in after work so I indicated that I wasn't in any hurry if that helped them out in any way. The guy who owns the garage is a guy I did my apprenticeship with many years ago so I go easy on him as he's a friend - I'm sure he is tougher on my cars though than some others

Sounds promising! A 'pre-check' is something I suggest - because once they log into the MOT system on the computer - the test must go through. With a pre-check - they can be much more flexible!
