2 speed wiper motors - LRW110

Hi All

Can someone please enlighten me

My original wiper motor is dr2

A new 2 speed wiper motor I purchased is held onto the car with a stainless strap. it came without the big gear but appears to take the same size gear as the minor so that part is ok HOWEVER

The selfpark mechanism is completely different.
on the minor motor I have a wire out the top which appears to connect to a plate which will disconnect power when the motor parks stopping the wiper operating.

The new motor has what look likes a push switch underneath the gear which the original gear must activate when its ready to park.

Obviously the minor gear wont operate this little switch. My question is

what could this motor be out of so that i may get the correct gear to make the self park work.

I hope I have not succeeded in confusing everybody

Hope someone can help as I am pulling my hair out.

I have a mini 2 speed wiper motor also which appears to be worn out. It mounts with a 3 bolt arrangement the same as the minor one but with different spacings. However the gear inside this motor is so much bigger.

I would like to use motor no1 as its new but i need to sort the park issue out.

cheers

Both the moggy motor and the 2 speed motor have a plastic gear wheel that is at right angles to the drive motor.

The platstic gear has an slight "indent" in it that a metal plate sits in, this metal plate has two prongs sticking out of it, the short one the wiper mechanism with, and it is the position of this prong that governs the arc of the wipers i believe.

the prong on other side pushes through the plastic gear and and forms the axle ( i think that is the wrong word but can not think of the correct word ) for the gear.

The problem you will have is that the metal disc from the minor has a larger diameter than the metal disc you push out of the 2 speed wiper so you will need to reduce its diameter and modify the "engagment" points so that it engages with the 2 speed platic wheel.

that is all i can recall of the mods i did, but it was about 15 years ago that i did it..

hope that answers your question

Hello Libor,

I think you will find that the original gear has a cam on the reverse side and this activates the park switch. Is there a different throw between the original two speed wipers wheel and the Minor one? I.e. the distance from the centre to the pin that the slider locates on. If so then you do have a problem. The simplest way is just to judge when you switch off the wipers?

The original Minor motor and early Mini motors were the same basic units with the 3 mounting legs; but different gearing. Two speed versions were fitted to numerous other British cars, for example Singer, Hillman, etc. I thought that the leg spacing was the same, but stand to be corrected. Later motors are fixed with the strap that you describe. It is quite likely that you have a conversion as sold by, for example, the Morris Minor Centre Birmingham - have a look at their advertisement on the back cover of Minor Matters. The gear wheel you require is currently available, but will depend on what year your car is, and whether it has the original wiper boxes - these can also have different gearings.

The two types of motor use, as you observe, completely different parking mechanisms, and so far as I know, the gears are not interchangeable, but the later wheels to suit your motors are definitely available. Good luck.

Thanks for all your help

On further investigation the part no for my motor is LRW110.

The minor gear seems to be the correct gear as far as size goes but it needs something on the underside to contact the plastic pin which sticks upfrom the connector block which I presume is the park switch. From what I can see the gear will need to have some kind of 'ramp' so that when the ramp hits the switch, it parks the wipers.

If the proper gear is available, does anyone have the part no and where I can get one from? Also can you confirm that the sweep angle for clap hands wipers is 100 deg

many thanks

Yes it is.
