bought our '66 minor saloon with new points ,cap , condenser and rota arm fitted , but rota arm and cap segments looked a couple of years old , burnt even , replaced cap and rota arm , having washed segments of cap and brass tip of rota arm off in brake cleaner. Started up and ran for a few mintutes stopped engine and removed cap already segments and tip of rota arm showing signs of burning, the first set had done 400 miles with no miss fire or trouble , no excessive side play on distrubtor spindle , inter motor parts used.
any experiences of simular and ways to cure many thanks ,

Don't worry about it! A spark jumps across - it's bound to leave it's mark.

There was a thread here somewhere about not using brake cleaner where it might be burned as it creates poisonnous gases. Had a search but can't find it. Please be careful
