Van Engine?

Been offered (free) 1098 engine from supposedly late model van/pick up 10V/451E/45521. If it is suitable for my 1098 '66 Traveller I would consider rebuilding it. Is it the same spec as the car engine? (comperression ratio etc) it has a breather fitted from the crankcase to the carb via a cylindrical gizmo
Appreciate any info

Thanks all now the proud owner of a 'new' engine. By the way what is the difference if any between 10V and 10ME engines other than the vehicle they were fitted to

apparantly according to mcoles the V engine was used in vans.

I used to think perhaps they were better versions u know

10MA-10ME-10V i thought better bearings etc but obviously not

Tiny detail differences - to the accessories - nothing worthwhile!

Were LCVs normally fitted with low comp. engines?

I think that would depend on their destination Mike. Generally I would agree bit it seems that some had HC engines fitted...

yes - and if so the Minor engine number would have a H or L to indicate high or low compression (Somethng like 10M#L#####). No idea about non minor engine numbers though!

I believe that the army Travellers were also fitted with low comp engines, at least they felt like it to drive.

Re; the engine;

10V/451E/L's are LC PO Minor van engines.

cannot be 45561 as the highest recorded is 10200

if it's 4556 it will have a green rocker box, 5561 will be black

(both date to 1971)

hope this is of help

Thanks POMMReg the engine is now slightly different. Chucked the old low compression pistons away. MG Metro cam, 12G295 head, HIF38 carb. Goes quite well

According to the id tag removed when the block was 'decked' the engine ni is 10V/451E/L 5621

the engine of our BOM 4K is 5583, so engine will date to Autumn(ish) 1971.

(Black rocker box!)

thanks for your reply.
