Driver side indicators dead

I have my MOT booked for one week today and wouldn't you know it the drivers side indicators have stopped working. Front, back and the light on the stalk are all dead. There is also no ticking coming from the flasher unit. The left hand indicators are all working fine and all the brake lights etc. are fine. All the visible connectors have been cleaned but it didn't make any difference. The car is a 1966 Morris 1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated - especially if I can get it sorted before next Monday.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

If one side works the problem is unlikely to be the flasher unit. Have you tried replacing the bulbs on the right hand side? I would try this first. If they still don't work check for a loose connection or bad earth from the rear of the indicator unit. A common problem is that the front indicator base unit has badly corroded. All easily fixable by next Monday though :D

The warning light will only work when the front and rear indicators are both working, and as it works with the left indicators then there is no problem there.
The flasher is on the input side of the indicator switch, so if the left indicators work then that is ok, as is the feed to the indicator switch.
The problem is most likely a fault in the wiring between the indicator switch and where the wires for the front and rear r/h indicators split, probably one of the bullet connectors.
Check along the wiring with a test light.
Do not discount the coincidence of both bulbs blowing or bad earths on the units.

From past experience I'll go for bad earth at the front light unit. You can run a peice of wire direct to the side of the bulb (push in between bulb and buld holder) and the other end back to battery earth to check for this.

Check bulbs is obvious first thing - one may have failed and you didn't notice, then the high flash rate on the other caused it to fail too. But as above - it really IS most likely to be wiring at the switch - or the switch itself. You could swap the wires over left to right - just to see is they worked through the switch - but obviously wrong side! See the wiring diagram at the top of this section (restored there by Louise yesterday) for the wire colours!

Thank you all for your help with this and thanks for responding so quickly. I'm a bit of a novice at this so I'll let you know how I get along.

From Barry's diagram - you would sop the green/white and the red/green - to test if the flashers worked from the known good side of the switch. If they do - then it's failed switch.
Edit - I see Barry gives that colour as red/green - but I rather suspect it should be green/red. Anyway - easy enough to spot which wires go into the switch!
