was wondering what diff you all had in and what axle was most popular
this is only related to any one with a twin cam and running the fiat 5 box
thanks
mark..
i run a 2lt with a 4.2 diff ,on a ford very quick but not to good on a long run as 70 is a bit over 4000 revs.

Escort Mk 11 is probably the most popular now, taking over from the Ital units.
the 2Ltr motor has enough grunt to run a 3.7 diff, but a 3.9 will give you the best of both worlds.

I have a 3.9 diff. But my wheels are pretty large so at 70 my revs are almost exactly 3000. I was toying with the idea of fitting a 4.1 to get some extra acceleration, but i think i have enough really!

Marina/ital - 3.63 - 1 - seems ok.

We always used the Celica axles 3.9:1 because they had 4.5" PCD which matched the marina van hubs and gave a big choice of wheels. Also it was possible to find LSD axles very cheaply.
This is not a practical choice of parts now though!
I currently run a 3.9:1 in my Minor now and wish I had a longer 5th gear for motorway work.

I have used a 3.54 ratio in mine ever since I put the Fiat engine in it, from standard 2 litre to the current turbo charged 16 valve 2 litre 400+bhp engine. I have always used 205/60 13 on the rear so is fairly high geared, will top 100mph in third gear.
I ran a 3.9 for a very short while but it made the gearing wrong for some hillclimbs I used to do and not as nice on the road. Let the torque do the work not the revs.

I ran a fiat 132 axle on my last twin cam powered car. It was a few years ago but I'm pretty sure it was a 3.7 ratio. It was a 2 litre and was quick enough to see off most boy racers, ran mid 15 second 1/4 mile and on a run would do 30+ mpg if i behaved myself. The fiat 131 and 132 axles are really strong, kind of like an italian version of the atlas. I have heard of people putting 300+ bhp through them, thats why I've still got a spare one tucked away at the back of the garage.

Hi,
I originally ran a 3.54 diff but blew it up on the track so changed to a 4.1 diff thinking I'd get more acceleration but actually it made 1st gear fairly useless and I blew that up on the 1/4 mile. I've changed back to the 3.54 diff because it gives the car slightly longer legs and actually I lost nothing over a 1/4 mile drag because I could use 1st for something. The diffs are not much good for anything over 180 BHP so if you,ve modded the engine at all I'd personally go for the lower ratio diff (3.54). I don't feel the 4.1 offers much in terms of acceleration gain and just makes cruising less comfortable.

Hi,
guess I should have said it's the escort axle, originally from an RS2000.
