Following on from the thread in "do you know", this Minor is on ebay and is no way a 1958 example!!

I would have said more like 68, it appears to be a 1098

What is it with 1958 that people want ??

It was the year that most minors were made, and that parking meters were introduced. Why would you say a 60's car was from then?

I'm lost on the reasons.....

The Minor was restyled around 1964 and that one has all the upgrades:-
later front/rear indicators, wiper layout, dashboard/inst. panel, seats etc. The only thing wrong is the non suffix reg. plate which could have been easily changed. The chassis no. would confirm its date.

I don't suppose that 1958 has any significance at all. If you are planning on 'ringing' a car you just use whatever new identity you have available to you. Most Minor owners are aware of the changes between early and late cars but sellers and potential buyers may not be.

There have now been 3 possible 'ringers' in the last few weeks. Perhaps those on here who could see nothing wrong with the sale of V5's can now appreciate why others are so against it.

It is not being suggested here that the seller is aware that the car is a potential 'ringer' though.

Doesn't matter if they are 'aware' or not - could be handling stolen goods! If the stamped - in chassis numbers don't match the documents - the car would be seized by Cops - and the seller charged. They may 'get off with it' if they can prove they had no idea - but they would not get the car back! Same would apply to anyone foolish enough to buy this one !

Yes, I'm aware of the law. I'm just mindful of the T&C's so am making it clear that it is not being suggested on this forum that the seller is aware.

The photo is from 2007, which would indicate (maybe) the time of ownership. Hardly the action of a criminal to keep it for so long.
I'd suggest that either the seller has been mislead at the time of their purchase, or that an error in paperwork has occured somewhere along the line.

Hi All, My husband is the seller of the vehicle that is the subject of your topic. Do you really think he would be so silly to sell a stolen vehicle on Ebay !! I don't think so. He bought the vehicle in good faith. Remember your terms and conditions about calling people thieves. As for the gentleman that says he contacted my husband through ebay and didn't get a response , he is a liar , he did respond and got messages back.

I'm afraid that it does seem to be a feature of this forum that many are prepared to think the worst in cases like this.
If I were selling the car then I would remove it from ebay immediately and apply to DVLA for a correct date related plate, and try and track the history to see where the error began.

I have now removed the auction and contacted the person I have bought the vehicle from and they are certain the vehicle is all correct but I have asked for a refund and they can take the car back, they reluctantly agreed, so I am now feeling a bit better about the whole situation and will not be buying anymore classic cars.

I think the main point about this is to check everything three times. Check the numbers match up.

Just a reminder that calling someone a 'liar' is also a breach of the T&C's, and at the time of posting the gentleman in question was awaiting a response.

I'm glad that the matter is resolved, and this is a good example of how important it is to check details when buying a vehicle. Checking that the numbers match on the chassis and V5 is not always enough to confirm that the car is 'genuine' and not a ringer.

If you are new to Minors and thinking of purchasing one please, please, ask advice first from someone experienced. Either post details here or contact your local branch as there will always be someone who is happy to advise.

If it was me - then yes - I did get quite a prompt response through ebay - but I don't sit at the computer all day (despite what my wife thinks!). Glad you got a refund from your seller - there IS something seriously wrong with the details of that car - you should be very glad it's off your hands now. Glad to have been of assistance!
