I thought that at first but it appears they changed around 1988 to CVH's with engine code R2A (thanks to Google for that info)....

the 1.8 may be a cvh but when the newer 2 litre engine came out that replaced the pinto it was still an 8 valve. It was a DOHC engine but basicly each cam operated four valves. All Sierra engines were 8V
with the exception of the 2.3 V6 and the 2.8/2.9 v6's also possibly the cosworth engines not sure though.

the 1.8 cvh isn't a particularly nice engine for a start. If I remember the gearbox is not a type 9 but the later box and it is physically bigger.

The cvh will attach to a type 9 though.

I have often thought about doing a cvh conversion. Would be sweet with a 1.6 turbo!! from an rs turbo.
