Thinking about converting to sierra gearbox for 1098 minor
Hi
Iam thinking about converting my minor to the 4 or 5 speed Sierra gearbox.
There are some earlier type 3 4 speed gearbox's about that are cheap do they have any benefits over the 5 speed type 9
What type of work is required to convert.
what parts are needed. Should i buy a kit and then source the gearbox seperately.
Jamie

If you've got the time and money, it's worth it.Can't see the point of spending all that money - and all the hassle.
A 3.7 with standard 1098 id fine except on hills where the gap between gears is too big.

Jan 07: back from a month thru North Africa (via Timbuktu) in a S3 Landy
June 07 - back from Zwickau Trabi Treffen
Aug 07 & Aug 08 - back from the Lands End to Orkney in 71 pickup
Sept 2010 - finally gave up breaking down in a SII Landy...
where to break down next?
2013... managed to seize my 1275 just by driving it round the block

I'd go along with that. The Ford box is a little bit porridge like, compared with an MGB gearbox or the Spitfire overdrive box in my Midget (That's a great box and if I had the time, I'd like to fit one to the Minor). However, the Ford conversion is available, it takes into account the Minor steering rack and it works. The standard Ford box has a tree pulling bottom gear, with quite a gap to second.rayofleamington wrote:If you've got the time and money, it's worth it.Can't see the point of spending all that money - and all the hassle.
