Has Anybody Insured Their Registration?

I've just renewed my insurance with Footman James. I had my car valued yesterday by a Morris Minor specialist and he suggested I enquire about insuring my registration. He wasn't sure exactly how much it was worth but said it could be at least £2000. The registration is 2855 LJ. I enquired about this when I rang up Footman James to renew the policy and they said that the registration is not an insurable item on the car, even though they can be sold for extortianate amounts! So if the car was stolen or written off, I would only get an insurance payment for the value of the car and not the registration as well. Has anybody got their registration insured? If so, how would I go about doing this?

Well I have not heard of a number plate being insured seperately but I am sure its possible to insure anything and it probably depends on how much you want to pay as companies like Footman James are very competitive with general classic car insurance so will possibly need a speciality company with special prices.

Even if the car is written off - you have a time period to transfer the registration to either another car - or a 'holding' document. It can't BE stolen - even if the car is stolen!! And therefore it can't be insured. The valuation given to it is wildly optimistic - did they equally optimistically value the car??? Some Minor 'Specialist!!'
