I've posted elsewhere about this car, but I didn't really expect anything to happen by way of finding a new owner. It's in Poland, it isn't quite finished, and it's been rebuilt using fabricated panels. They look fine, but these are not to most serious owners' taste. I have removed all areas which had even just an inkling of corrosion, apart from the door frame which I can do if I keep it.
So, what to do with it? I am presently considering the possibility of doing something radical with it, so I'm hoping that members could oblige with their thoughts.
.....the front suspension. I have often thought about how to do away with the original system and the ever-present 'kingpin issue'.
Many cars have a front crossmember which supports the engine, and holds the upper and lower arms, springs and shockers. I would, however like to keep the original engine and gearbox. Maybe someone has a suggestion regarding which car has a suitable crossmember arrangement for use on a Moggie whilst keeping the original engine. I have the feeling it's a "no way on earth" kind of idea, but one never knows, and the discussion could be interesting.
The rear axle would have to be changed also, from the same donor car, to keep the rear wheels in line with the front. I've never 'modded'.....is it okay to have the rear wheels further apart from each other than the front?
If not a crossmember at the front, which cars have a suitable independent system? Perhaps a beefed up inner wing, which would support a top arm with a ball joint.............
I'm just thinking out loud, really. Is this idea a 'no no' from the outset? I once saw a Moggie with a front crossmember from a Ford, with a plan to use the Ford engine. If it wouldn't be possible to keep the original engine and box, I wouldn't bother.
Because the car in question is pretty much a shell, with the chassis leg areas still exposed from above, I have good access to do any work.
Any ideas, anyone?
What to do with a 'spare' Moggie?
