I came out to the car this morning, started the engine and moved off as usual... only to see all of a sudden that there was a Sainsbury's carrier sitting on my bonnet!

I looked inside, and it was packed full of manuals - Haynes; Morris Motors original ring-binder workshop manual; Autopress; Pearson's RAC manual and various other little books about Morris Minors all from the 50s through to the 90s.

I'd like to thank whomever left them there for me. But who could it be?????? [/url]

You are very lucky indeed - it took me several months and more than £50 to obtain these books from E-Bay. You must have some very nice neighbours!

We've also come back from a day to to find headlamps/bits of chrome and manuals in the porch. Word soon gets round that there's a Moggy in the area and people seem v. happy to keep it going

Word does go round. I used to get calls at work from clients. Some couldn't recall my name when talking to the receptionist but always added, " You know - the morris minor guy!".

I have some old manuals from the fifties which someone found up a chimney when doing some DIY! Most people seem to have an on going affection for the cars, even if they don't own one themselves, so like to pass on any unwanted items/spares rather than just throw them out. Can you imagine people doing this with today's lookalike boxes?

this is very true i work in a shop and ive currently got about five copies of the haynes manuals from regular customers bringing them in i dont have the heart to say ive already got loads of copies of the same book, its really nice that people take the time out of there lives to hunt around the garage for a complete stranger though. never had a whole bag of spares though im jealous ;)

People are very kind!! Ive been given several different books over the years, an AA badge and a couple of boxes of spares all from people who owned Minors years ago and just started talking to me about the cars.

About a week after I bought my Traveller someone left a copy of 'Tigger's Little Book of Bounce' under the windscreen wipers! Were they trying to tell me something about the suspension? (If so, they were wrong!)

Three weeks ago someone gave me a lovely old AA grille bar badge.

I think it's because Moggies are so heart-warming to look at that people respond in this way...

(On the other hand, someone stole my left wing mirror about a week after I had it fitted. But let's not spoil a jolly post with tales from the dark side...)
