i do have a new engine but i will not be fitting it till early next year. my current has a few issues which i want to sort to keep it going entill then.

when i first got the car it was leaking a small amount of oil from the the engine bolts onto the gearbox. and it has a loud tapping noise. after i adjusted the tappets. the tapping noise was still there. what is causing this because it is a bit anoying.

now the oil leak has got a lot worse and it has started to leak oil out of the front of the engine.

thanks tom :)

Leaks are almost always caused by pressure inside the block - caused by blocked up breathers and excessive blow-by down the sides of the pistons. The test is - hot engine - idling - remove oil filler cap - is there a plume of smoke/fume when you rev up ? tapping noise could be various things - big ends/cam follower/slack timing chain/rocker tapping against the cover. Clear the breathers and make sure one is connected directly to the carb inlet to suck in the fumes and burn them!
