Hello,
I am wanting to practice welding (did a bit a few years ago through work) but dont know where to buy sheet steel to practice my cutting and welding.
Anyone got any ideas - I am in the North East / Newcastle area.

Local breakers? Get a broken bonnet or wing, doesn't matter on make as it's all metal.

Steel stockholders will sell you large sheets of metal,welding supply shops might stock smaller sheets for the DIY' er ( or know where to send you ).
Metal frabrication companies are probably a better bet.
Get yourself down to the local Trading estate to find one and ask if you can have some off cuts.You might be lucky and get it for free or have to offer some beer money.
Chat them up, tell them exactly why you need some metal/ why you are "not fussy", anything for a quid or two, etc.
HOWEVER, avoid anything that is " galvanised"..nasty fumes.If you can get different thicknesses of metal, so much the better to practice on.
Try the same begging routine at more than one place if it's convenient.

You'd be surprised how much these places throw away to be returned to the furnace. I've had.... "That won't even register on the scales mate just take it" It did me for my welding and I still have some left... it's going rusty now though...
