I had another half shaft go on the van this weekend......the last one went a couple of years ago (the opposite side )...and I do use the van for work on a daily basis so maybe thats just normal wear and tear...but I have heard about the new stronger ones and was wondering what the view is on these .....are they alot better- and worth the extra cost.....

They are quite expensive - not heard any bad reports about them !

I don't see the need for extra expense if everything is standard (engine / gearbox etc) the regular driveshafts should be fine. The "problem" with extra hard shafts is that the diff unit becomes the weak link in the chain and half shafts are easier and cheaper than diffs to replace.....

I have been driving enthusiastically with a 1275 and standard half shafts for some years. One broke a couple of years ago when driving gently. I have a couple of spares just in case.

If you inspect the shafts looking at the splines - they need to be nice and straight with no undue wear and no 'twist'. Any twist - expect breakage any time soon!

Good advice from Roy - It's far easier to replace a worn halfshaft than a broken one.
I've never had one break, but I think that's only luck.

For some strange reason my experience is that half shafts don't break when you expect them to, ie when dropping the clutch for a traffic lights GP, but when gently ambling along.

Cool video!!!!!!!!
As regards half shafts stop lifting the back wheel when taking off from traffic lights and it will last longer

Never heard of anyone breaking a half shaft on a Series MM though.
