Interesting stuff from Denmark.

I've just been to the site of Nordisk Morris Minors in Denmark, and they have some developments which members may find interesting.
Firstly, they are producing a fibreglass fuel tank for the Moggie, which seems like a good idea to me. Made of the appropriate materials to resist petrol, the tank has a smooth, shiny, black finish, and looks good.
Secondly, the company is producing the crossmember to which the front shock absorbers are attached. They say they are doing this in anticipation of rust problems with this element, as Minors become increasingly old. The original is made with thick steel, but time takes it's toll on everything, in the end.

Fibre fuel tank sounds dangerous! What happens in a rearend shunt ? The tank will be nipped - and almost certainly split open!!

I suppose it's a case of "you pays your penny and makes your choice".
There must be a lot of Minors running around with corroded fuel tanks - just no actual leaks yet. But in the case of a rear end shunt, I would imagine quite a few of these might split.

My old Merc 123 (RIP!), the fuel tank was up behind the passenger seat, although still in the boot. That was well away from damage from a rear shunt. And not prone to corrosion on the outside, either!

Good point, though, and one to bear in mind.

The fibreglass fuel tank is for vans and pick ups only.

they could do a rubber bladder to stop the leak?

Agreed - a metal fuel tank would often suffer a dent but not split open- fibreglass is bound to crack when hit with any force. For ultimate safety you need kevlar lining, but I fear that option might be a bit expensive.... :lol:
