I spoke with the previous owner (assuming it's the same van) at Crail about 2 years ago. It was running a tweaked 4.6 Rover, but wasn't getting decent times - he said his previous 3.9 was better. He did however have a go on the drift track, and promptly ended up in the adjacent field - day over.

yes i would imagine that was the previous owner it was him who built it, the van did well at knockhill i can say, i only bought the shell from him he had the rover 4.6 injection i'll be running a rover 3.5 with carbs, never been into v8's so giving it a bash if its not up to scratch i'll be dropping something in it a bit more quicker i have an idea what i'd like but as always its all about the money and i haven't stopped spending on this thing yet as it is.

You could fit any of the American smallblocks in place of the Rover without too much trouble. What engine do you have in mind?

was thinkng about a bmw, unsure what one though it was a guy from work that planted it in my brain and got me thinking it would be different, but as you say about an american small block maybe that would be better and with less work involved

I'd keep the Rover rather than a BMW. Just get used to the car with Rover power, then see if you need more. It'll go well enough to keep you interested.
I'm not sure how much power (torque) the Sierra back end will take - a factor to consider.

I love it!
I'm quite fond of the yellow vans (there were 2 or 3 at the LCV register rally last month), but I've never seen an orange one. -Weird, but nice!

yes you right i'm just getting a bit ahead of myself i think, i think i will be surprised of what i get, any tips for future refference on the rear end is there a better stronger type that you can recomend?

It will be fine with the Rover, but I think a strong small block would chew it up.
You should get mid to low 15 second quarters with a standard Rover - about the same as a Civic R, but with more style. rv8 stays in Falkirk too - he's building a V8 minor at the moment.
