The fuel gauge on my car has suddenly stopped working and constantly reads empty. Is it a simple thing to fix and if so how ?

Earth the wire at the gauge - should now read FULL. If not - then it's a cable fault.

It happened when I was driving. One minute the gauge read a quarter full and the next the needle had jumped to full. When I turned off the engine later and restarted it just stayed at empty.

So I have to take the gauge out and have a look at the connections / wiring. Great ..... :-?

Hello ian,

start at the sender end. You say it went to full, so it sounds as though the cable went to earth briefly, then moved again.
