Last Sunday I was out with my family when I saw 30 vintage mopeds going the other way with even more vintage riders.

I've only just got round to checking it out, here is a LINK

Fascinating, I wish I'd had the time to visit. I once had a Puch NB50 I think it stood for numb bum it didn't have any suspension. Also, although not really a moped, I once had a yellow Honda 70.

Great stuff, I had a Rayleigh runabout for a while then progressed to a Honda 50.
My mate at college had a Puch Maxi or a Norman Nippy can't remember which now.
We had plans to convert it to a hand lever gear change for some reason.
I've got a Honda C90 Cub now, mainly for trips into London.

I bought a Laverda scooter off my mate for £3 which needed some work (lots) doing to it including making a new little end bush, it was quite unusual in that it had a four stroke engine - sold it for £60!
Love the link to the pictures - especially the one with all the 2 stroke smoke!

Not exactly a moped but not much more power.
How about this for a classic adventure?

I had an FS1e that I restored and speeded up. I sold it much later during a garage clear out without realising they had some value

Scary stuff! At 16 (1974) My friend had a Rayleigh Runabout, and I had... A Norman Nippy which I did convert to two speed hand change, using an old Sachs engine from the back of another friends shed!
I remember filing the flange off the cylinder head, about 2mm of it, to raise the compression ratio to some improbable and incalculable figure. Yes- filed! And bolted together with firegum to fill the gaps. Took the baffle out of the Villiers exhaust, and... my mates Raleigh Runabout still kept up with it!! So much for my first lesson in two stroke tuning.
Then bought a new Garelli Rekord- 6.5HP when it would start (not very often) and 65 MPH until the chrome plating came off the bare alloy cylinder bore. The Importer wouldn't replace it-said I should have sprayed the cylinder black to dissipate the heat! Wouldn't get away with that kind of brush-off nowadays!

Great minds think alike and something, something, something :) .
I've looked at a few pictures and I'm thinking it might have been an NSU quickly that he had as the petrol tank was in the normal motor bike position.
The scheme to covert it to hand change foundered because the piece of pipe we were going to use way far too heavy.

The most useful thing I did was insist the we didn't butcher anything so badly that we couldn't put it back to standard.

Ah! race tuning the Raleigh Runabout, happy days. Raised compression by rubbing the head on sandpaper. I think I sawed the baffle in half when I realised what a hit the performance took with it removed :o
Greasy rags for goal posts etc.
