None whatsoever, but it's still better to fit it.

Not correct! The water won't circulate round the back of the engine - 3 and 4 cylinders! Causing localised overheating, while the front end will be overcooled. You MUST have a thermostat - or fit a 'blanking sleeve' as sold for use in Competition engines.
Why are you considering no stat ?

The side valve engine runs perfectly without a thermostat which is only fitted to the later engines when fitted with a water pump, to get the heater to warm up.
