I would like a little guidence on getting them ouit for inspection.

The problem I have with mine is that when I flick on the driver's side trafficator the trafficator arm itself lights up but the indicator on the switch does not.

But when I flick on the passenger side trafficator the arm itself does not light up but the indicator on the switch does.

Any ideas :-? I gave up because I never use them as I have flashing indicators fitted as well. But it would be nice to have them working properly

If you look in the switch you should have a wire connecting terminals 1 & 2, and terminal 5 and the terminal next to 1. See workshop manual P N28. Check that the power feed is connected to term 3 or 4 and the feed to the trafficators are connected to term. 2 & 5.
Rather than have them as decoration to be used on rally felds, trafficators work best if they are used constantly. If they are reluctant then a light lubrication of the piston followed by swiching on and off repeatedly will often result in an improvement in the speed of operation. If they are wired up to the same switch as the indicators as shown on the wiring diagram the they should give very little trouble unless you forget to switch them off when leaving the car.

Will have a look hopefully tomorrow or Monday. My flashers and traffictors are on seperate switches. I used to put both on until and incident involving a passenger snapping one off :( Fixed that though so should get over the 'drama', get them working correctly and start using them again. They always put a smile on people's faces :)

Thanks agin folk, I know, that's misquote but who cares :o). How difficult is it to remove the semaphore indicators? I mean to put my circuit tester on them? From the insider of the car I cannot see a way to get them out, nor from outside. Two screws hold them in are outside. Undo them. then what, does the damn thing vanish into the body of the car?

2 or 4 door?????????
2 door. Remove the back seat and the side panel. Undo the 2 screws on the outside and remove the trafficator from inside the car
4 door, Remove the trim on the door post.

Refitting Semaphore

Post by Psiteep »

I successfully remove the semaphore arm from the car and then founsd out why it wasn't working, it was not connecet to the wiring at all! Hower I tested the arm with a nine vold battery, not enough to cause dramatic movemewnt but enough to register whether it working or not, it was. Now I would like to know how I fit it back anbd wire it in properly please.
Yours,
Robert - Psiteep

There should be a length of wire dangling down or lying about inside the post. This attaches to a bullet connector on the trafficator mechanism and the unit screws back where it came from.
