Just got off the phone to Footman James as my insurance is due for renewal next month enquiring how much it would be, aparently they have to send me a letter, can't tell me on the phone as it hasn't been calculated yet .

Wanting to phone other insurance companies to make sure I'm getting the best deal I asked her to comfirm how many years of no claims I now have. I was told as it is a classic car policy I do not earn any no claims bonus :-? :o

Has anyone else ever heard of that?

Yes, it is true that classic policies do not accrue NCD. I don't see why they can't give you a renewal price though unless it is over 31 days away as this is the time quotes are usually valid for....

If that's the case how does it go down? I know age is a factor but do they consider the fact you have not claimed when they calculate the renewal cost?

It seems I'm more organised than I usually am and the renew date is over 31 days away

I guess for you "younguns" the policy premium is age dependant. As I am an "oldun" my classic policy is the same year on year..... The good news is that they can't put your premiums up if you do claim.... allegedly :-)

In theory it should be cheaper as you are a year older..... I noticed changes in premium at 21 and 25 but it was not until I was 30 that it was a significant reduction.....

Heres a hint for you.....

https://www.hertsinsurance.com/

Although they specialise in VWs they are happy to arrange policies for all types of classics - for me no-one could touch them on monty last year. Best thing is that they can arrange for NCB to be accrued  so make sure you give them a buzz

Just phoned up HIC but they couldn't beat the renewal from FJ.

Limited to 3000 miles: £525.45

Unlimited Miles: £695.55

So will more than likely go unlimited

Which beats the £1271 for insurance last year :)

Insurance does come down once you have some "driving history" for an insurer to go on.

I would get a quote from Brit Insurance. They used to trade under the name of Wren and used to offer very low agreed value insurance for young Morris Minor drivers. I used them from the age of 17 to 25 and it was around the £350 mark at first, and then went down each year. You do have to get a valuation from an approved Morris Minor specialist though. They send a list of the nearest ones to you that they accept. The valuation itself usually costs around £20.

I'm just 21, with no claims, and I've been driving less than a year, and I pay 700 fully comp/uk and eu breakdown cover/key cover/windscreen cover with Aviva (they do it through Adrian Flux)

Try them. x
