Well folks I have just been staring at my Morris for 4 days now having no idea what direction to take.
The car is now a body shell sitting on its wheels, I have all the panels (new).

First off the car needs the door gaps bracing, on the drivers side tried the jacking up method seams to work but where do you set it? Bigger gap at the top or even gap.
I think I have been reading too much and taking too much advice from too many different people that aren’t in the know how

Passenger side tried doing the same and just cant get it to have a nice gap always seams to hit windscreen pillar no matter what I do.

Have spoken Jonathon @ Jlh Minor Restoration/Performance Ltd who was such a helpful guy, he really knows his Morris minors and has offered to gap the doors for me for a small fee. But like most people finding the time to take over they’re and being stubborn and not wanting to give up so easily

Maybe I just need a kick up the bum to get me going, what would make this job easy is someone has some pictures showing a step by step guide to help me through the sills replacement or better still some measurements from all angles.

Is there anybody out there?

Just a note

I will make this convertible like new again someday
Image
Hey Skelly

Having just completed my restoration I know only too well the "staring at it for days" syndrome. The more you think about it the more daunting it seems and the less enthusiasm you have.

There's only one cure. Get stuck in! I would start by removing the doors altogether and (assuming you are going to do your own welding) grab the welder and some panels and have a go. If you stuff it up you can always start again. But in my experience the job is never as bad as you THINK it's going to be.

The Lindsay Porter book I think is good on sill replacement...

so for the first few days you were making lots of progress and you could see things happening and you were full of enthusiasm. you then have a period of no progress or no progress that you can see and you lose enthusiasm.. sounds a bit familiar

if you do not know were to go why not find a small piece and just work on that until you finish it, thats what i did and it always seemed to pick me up and i could go back to the big jobs with enthusiasm.

why not clean up your hand brake and paint it? it is a quick job it needs doing, probably, but you can imagine using it in your finished car.. sad aren't I but these little jobs worked for me and allowed me to complete my traveller..

Take the doors/front wings/front panl/wings etc off - to assess the full extent of the project!

bmc read his post first before responding... he is trying to take the doors off but wants to brace everything first before doing it ( which is the correct way of doing it ).. and can not get an even gap and has got fed up so he can not yet take the doors/ front wings off etc etc so is looking for another job he can do

or

a suggestion on how he can ensure a good gap before bracing the shell and removing the doors wings etc

Errr - I DID read the post!! Do you think I'm daft ??? Take the doors off! Then set the gaps. Wings have nothing to do with it - get them out of the way. Then the true extent of the problems may be seen.

so you did read the post then... so answer it in a constructive manor..

i.e. tell him how when he has no doors and wings on to set the gaps for the doors. i.e what are the measurements he should have at the top /bottom/angles etc etc so he has the confidence to take the doors off and wings off as you suggest.

To me it sounds like you should take Jonathon up on his offer. I'm sure it can be done diy... but maybe not if you're struggling.
