Magnetic power generators....

Has anyone else looked into these? I've been browsing around and seen a set of plans for building what is claimed to be a generator that drives itself using 12 opposed magnets. It gives out 3.5 volts at 7 amps, they say. You are informed that you will need an inverter to change the DC to AC, but no details on how to set this up.
Further, the generator needs to be run at 2,400rpm for 42 seconds to get it 'loaded up' and running by itself. Again, no info on how to achieve this, except a line about your needing to mount the rotor with a brass bush! I'm sure you wouldn't be able to do this by hand without incorporating a complex gearing system. And the whole thing would need to be well balanced.
So, sketchy at best. But there are a lot of sites on this subject, so I thought I'd ask here before dismissing it all as spoofery. These generators are the way forward, many claim.

Perpetual Motion Machine? Hahahaha!

Indeed - perpetual motion - sounds great. High cost of Petrol and Oil shortages are behind us at last!!

Mick, sounds intrigueing, can you provide a link?

Do you mean a Permanent Magnet Alternator?
I know of someone who is making one but nothing about it having to be run at 2,400rpm for 42 seconds.
Should start working at quite low speed from what I understand.
He may be using magnets from PC hard drives (or that may be someone else's design)

I know very little....I've just seen a diagram of 12 magnets in six pairs on a rotor, with windings from copper wire. They claim that once it starts, it keeps going. Hard to believe, but I like to keep an open mind on most things.
So far, it has been worth investigating because I found this gem, which someone quotes regarding the magnet generator:

“All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self evident”............ Arthur Schopenhauer.

At last! My chance to make my fortune!! I always knew you COULD get something for nothing!
I'm going to mass produce it, better than all those silly wind turbines!

And I'll market it under the name "Penningtons lingering magnetic marvel". (obscure link to a charlatan of old)

The problem is the phrase 'a generator that drives itself'
This would be very interesting if it was legal.

Unfortunately it's against the laws of physics and would amount to perpetual motion.

Nobody has managed to make it happen over all the centuries they have been trying.

Stick with tried and tested technology like Permanent Magnet Alternators (wind driven) or Morris Minors :D
