HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

hi i have a problem with my series II i started my series II up and i never had my foot on the accelerator and it was reving the guts out of itself for some reason and i dont know whats wrong with it and it is the first time we have had it running the first thing i done was checked the return spring on the throttle and thats ok any advice much appreciated.

Obviously the throttle is being held open somehow - check the cable connections - and check the choke is not pulling the throttle up too far. Other possibility is an air leak - allowing air into the inlet manifold - with the choke out - the mixture could still be strong enough to run the engine.

when you say run the engine do you mean run the engine with the ignition off

One thing that happened to me was my throttle return spring snapped.. Could have been 40 years of heat from the exhaust

Errr - no - the ignition obviously needs to be ON! But if enough air ifs entering somewheere it shouldn't - the even though throttle etc is et correctly - the engine will run up using the rich mix from the choke, and the extra air from the leak!

before starting take the air box off and the elbow lift the piston and see if the throttle butterfly is open if it is then you have a problem in the cable area
