Video of the datsun powered 62 saloon

Post by morrisman1 »

just a quick video of the car. Ill have a video of it in action on the road at some point fairly soon.

it was gifted with brakes tonight. I bled the new system but couldnt work out why the pedal went to the floor. it would pump up a bit but the pedal would never be solid. 5 minutes of inspecting the system found that the previous owner who put the discs on had put the calipers on the wrong sides and the bleed nipple was at the bottom so most of the caliper was still full of air!

anyway, now with things fixed the brakes seem to work well. The booster still is not hooked up to vacuum but ill get that sorted.

heres the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26s4R38fZGU

Hate to say it, but I was expecting it to sound more like a sewing machine than a tractor.
Did you block off the place on the inlet manifold where the servo will get vacuum from?
Do you know what is causing the loud 'ticking' sound?

yea ive blocked off the vacuum line. Theres a couple of sounds there, one is the leaky exhuast manifold gasket, and the other is a dust protection plate every so slightly contacting the flywheel making a noise. then of course there is the carbs sucking away.

arrgh i hate tuning carbs!!

aint as easy as the old SU unit on the BMC engines. Either my main jet or my pump jet is too large and its over fueling to the point that i get a nice cloud of black smoke when i rev it.

I managed to settle down the idle a bit today, the idle adjustment screws were completely out and were far from what they should have been so making a little progress.

Will find out tomorrow when i can take it down the road if its the pump jet or the main jet which is causing the over fueling.

Sorry about being negative with my 1st post. I should have read the info on you tube.
Interesting engine:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_A_engine
And loads of people have tuning gear too.

I've got a useful suggestion too! Lose those air filters.
I had one one on a twin choke carb (with glass window) and altough I loved the way it looked the carb wouldn't run right with it on.
I had to use something uglier to get it to run right.

How about the standard carb/carbs?
you could run that while sorting other things out.

i might have to go back to standard carb for a while as i just found out mine, being the 5-progression hole model is suited for the twin cam fiats, and alfa romeos rather than the datsun engine unless they are being used constantly at full throttle like in ministock or on the track.

Im on the hunt for a 3-progression hole model which are much more suitable for use on the road than what i have

you can see in this video some of the mixture issues that im having!

the clutch is slipping like mad in that so i was taking it pretty easy
