how long is the main brake pipe that goes to the rear brakes?

i wonder if you could run a piece of string or wire along the route of the pipe and then you have the length and plenty of time to get what you need.

If you get it say 8 ft long - that will be plenty - and you can lose any excess with some neat coils at the end.

Give Bull Motif a ring and ask the same question, they will either sell you the pipe or offer the dimension you need, BM..... neat coils.. what are you like

Should be coils at the end of any long pipe run anyway!! Mini for example - has two coils of pipe on the long run from front to back before it connects to the T that feeds to the two rear cylinders!

I now design Rolls Royce cars and our LWB Phanton has no coils on the end of the brake lines and they are over 6m long.

So... It's about time you learnt a trick or two from the Scots Sage
Come on BMC- why the desire for neat coils, unless you can't stretch to a flexi pipe??

Well - untidy coils would be poor workmanship! The idea was to use up excess length! Simples. Often you will see coil at the end of a run of pipe, especially if there is any possibility of slight movement (granted not very likely on the Minor!) - can't vouch for the standards used on RR !

got up early and found some of that time i didnt have, the main pipe on my minor is 8 1/2 feet long.
so now to the nearest motorfactors to get one made up.
is it worth spending £45 on the gadget to do the ends? just so i dont have to run around like a blue bummed flu next time i brake one.

8 1/2 ft sounds long?
Is this the one from the back of the master cylinder to the flexi for the rear axle? if so it can't be more than about 5ft!

Aye - my 'guess' of 8ft included a large chunk of 'plentifulness' - so 8 . 5 ft surprises me ! But - it can be lost in 'coils' if too long. Yes - a brake pipe tool is worth having if you intend working with cars for the rest of your days! But £45 sounds a LOT - search around !! You could then of course make and sell 'kunifer' pipes to others on this forum!

At 8ft I suspect that this Minor has a servo hiding in the engine bay.

Aaaah -now that's a possibility!

What mixture of end fittings is he likely to have then? Hope his Motor factor is clued up on moggies!

45 for the tool.. depends on the tool, there are two types...
cheap ones..
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PIPE-FLARING-TOOL ... 024wt_1165
or the more expensive ones
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-SYKES-P ... 1484wt_857
the difference is the ease with which both tools make the end.. if you are going to be doing lots and lots of pipes I would go for the expensive one if you are doing one or two pipes from time to time go with the cheap one and accept that it will take longer. so it depends if the 45 pound one looks like the cheap tool or the expensive one..

For Minor - would need only 3/8" UNF male amd 3/8" BSF male ends ! If also doing Mini pipes - would also need m10x1 male, and 3/8" UNF female ends.

Hi
This thread gives has a diagram with the standard lengths and fittings.
The master cyl to rear brake pipe tee length is 55" or just over 4'6" so if 8'6" it must be to a servo or simelar?

LHD would add about 2 feet.
