I am sorry about beng repetitive but i seemed to have lost my previous topic, I have a 1956 split windscreen morris and am due in february. But i am very concerned that i won't be able to use my beloved morris.
My seats at the moment are hinged at the floor and rigid back.
Can anyone help me with this problem? Legal ideas only please.

Just make some clamps to hold down the rear feet of the seat to stop it tilting and use baby seat as normal. Don't clamp both seats though as you would not be able to get in or out the back of the car....

Hi Sassy3. I think you will need seat belts fitted in to the Morris. I you have them already then the front seat can be used with out clamping as the seat belt will stop the seat going forward. You will need to pull the belt tight on to the child seat. I no seat belts then you will need to fit them. The rear is probably better and easier to fit then the front.

I think split screen were never fitted with seat belts. Due to this it is difficult to fit them to the front seats, as the large captive nuts are not fitted to the body by the factory, as the car was assembled. If you fit them in the back, it is possible to do the job only by drilling 3 holes in the body and placing the nuts on load spreading plates underneath the car, and one on the rear shelf below the rear window.

Seat belts or no - I would STILL bolt that seat firmly down before risking a baby seat on it!! And if no belts - I don't see how you fix the baby seat anyway!

Fit belts in the rear (like I've just had done in my wife's 4 door saloon) and then there's no need to worry about having to bolt down the front seat. the only thing is that you will need an extension (securon part 227 if you fit the Securon seat belts that most of the traders supply for the Morris Minor) to make the belt long enough to reach around the seat. Perfectly legal but leave the drivers seat tilting for rear seat passengers to get in and out.....

I used baby seats in the rear of mine.
Fitting rear belts is easy. Afternoons job. Fitting fronts is a little more involved, especially in a 2 door where there are less potential mounting points.

Once saw a two door in Castleton with a baby seat in the back, they had taken the passenger seat out completely to allow easy access to the rear seat
