Standard or modified?

This question has been asked in the modified section here, we\'d like see how many people run standard minors and how many are modified.

Modified counts as a change of engine, transmision, suspension, chassis, etc. Things like indicators and seatbelts can still be classed as standard

If you have lots of minors then put the type you have more of

If I really could only keep one it would have to be the standard 948, I'm emotionally attached to it.

The modified one will probably refuse to start in the moning now that I've said that!

I put modified, not because my car is heavily modified (Alternator, huge sound-system etc..) but because for me the standard car is a base to build on, to add tweaks to and make it my own.

If I had the spare cash I'd be putting disc brakes, gas dampers, a K-Series engine, coil-overs etc... on it, but I dont right now so those will have to wait for a bit.

I'm definitely not interested in concours ... reminds me too much of unix nerds.

Fairly standard Series MM. Modified Traveller using BMC sourced parts, ie Midget 1275 engine / box / diff, Wolseley 1500 brakes.

Slightly modified, disc brakes, tele dampers and Metro carb & manifold but still 1098.

1275 Midget engine (Lead free gasflowed head & 1 3/4" Carb), Ford 5 speed box, Quaife diff, Anti tramp bars, servo disc brakes, anti roll bar and then its little things like heated rear windows, halogen lights.

1 x lowlight with 5.7 Camaro LS1 V8 in build (still), 1 x series 2 with Rover 3.9 (on road), and son has a 67 with fiat twin cam (in rebuild mode).

57 2dr splitty waiting for funds to finish, 200bhp Zetec etc, 68 pickup again waiting for a std Zetec motor, has Fiat 2.0LTC atm, but might need to sell the whole thing to fund the'beast', our 68 2dr with 308bhp supercharged Zetec and too many bits to list here.

iv voted modified im not into big engine changes but 1275 is ok wheels,brakes,and suspension all fine by me a good retro look is good

A fan of all three types:-

Custom - wild & wacky. Probably not my cup of tea these days, but I love to see the variations that a Minor base can offer.

Concours - The Premier League for Minors. I greatly admire the painstaking work owners put in & I am often quite envious at the superb examples at shows. However, these cars would not be practicable to me and it would ruin them by using them for everday transport.

Modified - Best for everyday use. safety-wise, seat belts, seats with headrests, screen heaters, halogen lamps are all improvements that would not detract from the original too much. Again, uprated engines, disc brakes, etc can be added without ruining the car's character.

Take a look at a JLH built car. Original looking car with a modern set up cleverly concealled & more than a match for modern traffic

I love the "from another era" look to the standard morris, along with various tweaks that modernise the car without changing its classic appeal too much.

That said, I have a set of wolfrace alloys sitting around and I am tempted to see what they look like on the morris ..

When I'm finished restoring my series 2, the plan is too keep it original (though not arsed about concours standard).

The car probably won't be up to everyday use on busy roads, which is why I wont be using everyday, though I appreciate why many owners modify them for everyday use.

Well... of the 5 Minors in our household, 2 are modified and 3 are standard. But only 3 are the road and 2 not, but erm..

*cough* start again...

My everyday car (which I think the original question was aiming at) is standard so that's what I have voted for.

1098, positive earth, dynamo, standard drum brakes, no radio, does 250 miles per week to work & back + rallies at the weekend.
