Engine size
New member about to start searching for a Traveller. Going to look at one at the weekend. Claimed to be 1098/1966 Model but DVLA have it as 948 - Could anyone advise
Another Scottish member! Welcome to the forum. Yes - it should have a 1098 engine - should have a little aluminium plate on the side of the block - just forward of the exhaust - with 1100 stamped. And a 'ribbed case' gearbox - not a smooth case (948 style) gearbox. However - just check the car really IS a 1966 model - and not an older (948 engined) model that has 'acquired' a later registration document! eg - It should have a 2 arm plastic steering wheel, and not a 3 spoke (wire spokes) wheel. And a black face speedo - with tpm of 1408 - and open front 'glovebox' in front of the driver.
Obviously - check the data on the chassis plate matches the data in the V5C !

Easy check is the wipers should not be clap hands. Other things to look at are the heater ( should be rectangular) and have large air hose (4") running to front of engine bay.

My Traveller is a 948 but it says 1098 on the logbook - a lot of transcripts from the old log books to the new V5's were inputted incorrectly on the DVLA computer so I wouldn't worry too much if the chassis plate number matches the log book and also matches the number stamped into the bulkhead. Take some pics when you view and post them up here and we'll be happy to advise on what year the car is.....
