Hello all, i am wanting to fit a hidden switch on my minor as an anti theft device. What would anyone suggest? on my cortina i fitted a switch on one of the coil wires up to a switch inside the car, would this be best on the minor? people have mentioned a putting a switch on the fuel pump circuit? if this is the better option which wire should i cut into? any advice would be great

Probably best to answer this by pm?

Remove the rotor arm. Not many thieves carry a spare in the pocket.

Best not to advertise. Dishonest people can read this site too.

I use more than one secret immobiliser technique (hopefully a thief will give up after messing about for a few minutes trying to get it to run).

The rotor arm technique is a hassle if you drive the car every day, plus I'm sure I'd eventually lose it down a drain.

Some people like to also have an obvious visible deterrent like a Disklok to discourage opportunist thieves from having a go in the first place.

Large angry dog in the car usually works well!

With a *disk-lock they can't get your car away unless they've got a car transporter and would need to be able to get it right in front of the car.

Electrical anti-theft devices are a great idea and will stop 95% of theives (especially the opportunists) but won't stop some ####er with a tow rope. Later vans and very late travellers had a locking steering column - this, rather like a disklock, will stop the car being towed away and it can only be put on a transporter if they can get in front of the car (or if they've go time to unbolt the column - quite unlikely!).

* A disc-lock is the type that completely encloses the steering wheel. It's not to be confused with a crook-lock which is almost an advert to car theives as they can be removed in under 2 seconds. :o

I'm not going to advertise how, but it is very easy to defeat a steering lock.

I use a number of techniques too with the trav - the idea being that anyone trying to nick it isn't going to spend half an hour trying to work it out...

I've also fashioned a makeshift alarm using a horn so if they get the ignition on they will be deafened.

Shame we arn't allowed to wire them to the mains.

The other thing is that you might successfully manage to stop someone from nicking the car - doesn't mean they then won't burn it out....

Suggestion?

Let's stop this thread.

Switch under the dash. When moved, it connects the brake light to the horn. At every junction.....Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!
They'll soon get out since everyone will be looking at them.

The other idea I got was a .410 shotgun cartridge and a lathe. You bore out the bottom of the steering column and.......

I quite like the horn idea!

Yeah, that horn idea is neat :D

I'm just about to fit a maplin wireless alarm to my minor, I'm going to place it inside the dash pointed at the driver ... 115Db of sound in your face is going to be rather annoying, plus it has an ignition cut out circuit which I'm going to re-use for my original anti theft device.

I can then re-use the switch from my original device for that horn idea ... nice one :D

May need a different horn - because Minor horn circuit works by earthing out the horn at the button!

A relay would do the job easily and simply

It would indeed. But for some - that's starting to get complicated!
